How It Works

Select a phonics category and choose up to 13 images from the Fun Fonix library. Type a word or short sentence next to each image, choose your text style, and click Make the Worksheet! Images and words are shuffled independently - students have to match each picture to the correct word by drawing a line between them.

The Traceable Text version prints words as dotted outlines using a special tracing font - students trace the word after connecting it, so the worksheet doubles as handwriting practice. The Read Text version prints the words in the font and size you choose.

Classroom Ideas & Variations

★ Basic matching

Write a vocabulary word next to each picture. Students match image to word. Perfect for introducing new phonics sets or reviewing vocabulary.

★ Sentence matching

Write a short sentence or clue instead of just a word - "You hit a ball with a _____." Students read for meaning and match to the picture. Deeper comprehension practice.

★ Scrambled spelling

Jumble the letters of the word (e.g. atc for cat). Students unscramble and match. Best for second grade and up.

★ Spelling test

Use the traceable version and leave text fields empty. Students write the words themselves from memory and connect them - a self-checking spelling test.

★ Red herrings

Choose one or two images that don't match any word. Students have to decide which images are unmatched. Adds a thinking challenge for stronger students.

★ Simplified version

Use only 6?8 images instead of all 13. Leave unused slots blank. Fewer items makes this accessible for kindergarten and early first grade.

Teacher Tips

Pre-teach vocabulary: Go over the pictures verbally before handing out the sheet - students need to recognise the words before they can match them.
Tracing font: The traceable version uses a dotted-outline font that must be installed on your computer. If the text appears in a standard font, download and install the tracing font here, then reload.
Multiple versions: Refresh the print page for a new random arrangement - no need to re-enter your words.
Any language works: The text fields accept any language, including Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and European languages. Short phrases work too.
